Spring/Summer Inspiration - Designer Q&A with ALÉMAIS Founder

At Michael Hill, we were proud to support Australian designer label, ALÉMAIS, as it made its Australian Fashion Week debut earlier this year.

We spoke to ALÉMAIS Creative Director, Lesleigh Jermanus, about all things design, creativity and sustainability. Read on to discover Lesleigh’s insights and inspiration.

1. Where do you find your creative vision? What was the inspiration for your Resort ’24 Collection?

For our Resort '24 collection one of our starting points was the idea of dreams and exploring the space between our reality and our future. We looked at the 1985 Dark Fantasy Film ‘Return to Oz’ which transported us to worlds beyond reality. We were mesmerised by the opulent sets, costumes, colour, shapes and sound.

2. What synergies can you see with ALÉMAIS and Michael Hill on sustainability?

ALÉMAIS and Michael Hill are both committed to reducing environmental impact and promoting ethical sourcing. By demonstrating respect for the environment and our production partners, ALÉMAIS strives to operate as a conscious business. This commitment is evident in various initiatives, such as maintaining a carbon-positive workforce and engaging in reforestation programs. Similarly, Michael Hill promotes circularity with a gold recycling program and responsible sourcing, including Conflict-Free Diamonds.

3. What do you see as upcoming trends into the next season?

I try not to focus on what is ‘on trend’ when designing, in the age of social media trends move so quickly and don’t offer longevity. Instead, we always embrace the styles our customers are responding to and the details that make ALÉMAIS customers feel good and bring joy.

4. Here at Michael Hill we loved supporting ALÉMAIS on your Fashion Week debut, what was the highlight of your first runway show?

Seeing the culmination of months of hard work from our entire team and creative collaborators - that moment was beyond my wildest dreams.

To celebrate the new Spring/Summer season, and inspired by the ALÉMAIS Resort ’24 Collection, we’ve put together an edit of jewellery styles to elevate each of your looks this season (and always). Explore our top picks.
